01 Aug 2018-2019 TESTING DATES
We will begin our 12th year of EKG-based cardiac screenings at Lake Forest Academy on August 22. The Foundation is scheduled to provide screening at eleven area high schools this year and potentially reach an additional 10,000 students. The program’s mission is to identify students who are at risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD) before they are stricken so they can obtain treatment.
Mary Beth Schewitz, director of the foundation named after her son, says, “There are children living robust lives unaware that their life could end abruptly. We have made a life-saving difference to young adults like Leanna who underwent open-heart surgery, and Jack who has an implanted defibrillator, and many others now treated for Long QT Syndrome, and dozens of students diagnosed with WPW (Wolff Parkinson White) who have had corrective surgery or are under supervision. Instead of grieving parents, we have a trail of grateful parents and healthy students.”
